Participation

MFI Script Workshops can accommodate up to 28 participants per year (20 with projects and 8 as observers). The program is addressed to professionals as well as emerging European screenwriters or writer/directors with a feature film script in development. Others, such as screenwriting teachers, dramaturgists, readers, script editors, development executives, producers (etc), may also apply to participate as observers.

Although MFI emphasizes participation from Southern Europe countries, the program is open to applicants from all the countries of the European Union and countries participating in the Media Programme.

Language: English is the working language in all workshops

Selection Criteria
Participants are selected on the basis of the quality and originality of their story material, promise and viability of their project. Applicants must have previous writing experience, must demonstrate screenwriting talent, and, preferably, submit a project that’s on a production track. In short, creative quality, track record and the project’s production potential are the principal selection criteria.

In addition, the program seeks and is partially open to new, emerging screenwriters who show a strong creative potential. Therefore, beginning writers are also encouraged to apply.

Finally, an important selection criterion (a requirement in fact) is the applicant’s commitment to participate in all the phases of the program, and his/her willingness to attend and be engaged in all the scheduled training activities according to the program guidelines.

Selection procedures
Pre-selection is based on evaluation reports by MFI’s panel of script advisors. The final selection is made by MFI. All candidates will be informed of the final results at least a month prior to the first workshop.

Participation costs
Tuition fees: 1000 Euro for the participants with a project and 500 Euro for the observers.
The program covers accommodation and board for one principal participant per project and for observers (for all workshops).

Participants organize and pay for their travel.
