The Mediterranean Film Institute is proud to announce that the film Absurdistan, co-written & directed by Veit Helmer from Germany received the Award for Best Direction of the 14th Athens International Film Festival OPENING NIGHTS CONN-X (17 -28 September). Veit Helmer was a participant in the 2003 MFI Script Workshops program, where he developed the screenplay of the film under the supervision of MFI trainer Jan Fleischer.

The festival course of Veit Helmer’s film includes the participation in the prestigious World Cinema Competition of the 2008 Sundance Film Festival. Absurdistan is one of the numerous “MFI screenplays” that were realized during the 8 years of the program’s implementation, adding to the Workshops’ high average of produced projects and proving its effectiveness and success.
